Sometime last year, during our gathering with fellow magicians, one comment kept popping up: “Heb je de dobbelroutine van Hyde Ren gezien?”

Although we hadn’t seen it before, we had a feeling it wouldn’t be that simple. Intrigued, we watched the video demonstrations, and as expected, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it!

We contacted him immediately, but were told the routine wasn’t ready yet. Since then, our standard greeting whenever we met Hyde Ren was: “Meneer, is de dobbelsteenroutine klaar?”, and we’d always get a cool reply: “Nog niet.”

Finally, six months later, the long-awaited dice routine is now finally presented to you—Dalmatian.

The paddle move with dice is a very classic and practical technique. Previously, it was merely an improvised little magic trick that most magicians used to make the dice appear to bounce around.

Hyde Ren has fully exploited the potential of this principle and created a complete dice routine: from the dots on one side of a die changing, to the dots on every face of the six-sided die turning into 2s and then disappearing completely, leaving behind a pure white cube without any dots (thanks to Zuming for his help in streamlining and polishing the final phase of the routine).

The routine is well choreographed and has a progressive three-stage structure, with multiple visual effects embedded within it. Truly fascinating.

As for the included props, there are two sets of dice, for a total of six dice. So you don’t have to worry about a thing, even if you lose one of the dice.

The specially designed multifunctional dice holder serves both as a holder/storage unit and as a setup/reset device. It is a highly ingenious component of the entire routine and prop design.
