Here’s what happens:

The magician introduces a deck of cards with blue backs. The audience selects and memorizes a card, which is then lost in the deck. The magician then turns over the top card, making it appear as though the deck is face up. With a snap of the fingers, the rest of the deck is spread out, revealing that it has indeed been turned face up—except for one card. That card turns out to be the selection. The selection is removed from the deck and placed face down on the table to reveal the blue back. The deck is then turned face down, and the blue backs are all revealed to have turned red. The selection is turned face up again to emphasize that they had to choose that card. When the face-up stack is turned over and spread out, the stack no longer has any faces. The spectator picked the only card with a print, since the rest of the deck is now completely blank.
