Vortex Magic presents KNOT UNEXPECTED by Jim Steinmeyer

Jim Steinmeyer is considered one of the most creative minds in magic, and Knot Unexpected shows why. After Doug Henning performed the ‘moving knot’ in his television special, he contacted Jim to devise a method that was more practical for his touring show. Jim created Knot Unexpected—one of the most practical and deceptive versions of the cut-and-repaired rope.

In the past, other versions were sold, but they never matched the ideal knife Jim had designed. They were either too small and couldn’t cut the rope, or they were cheaply made and wouldn’t cut through the rope. Vortex Magic spent over two years designing and having prototypes made to get the perfect blade for this illusion. It looks and feels like a real knife and cuts through the rope easily. You can now perform the moving knot and cut and repair the rope with confidence and ease using any piece of rope.

The effect: two spectators hold a piece of rope, a spot is chosen somewhere near the middle of the rope, the slack is taken up, and the rope is OPENLY cut in the middle. The magician then takes the newly cut ends and ties them into a knot. He/she then slides the knot freely along the rope. The magician slides the knot to one end and unties it, leaving the bewildered spectators with two unequal pieces of rope. No gimmicks, very visual, no magnets to worry about.
