Max Maven was one of the most prolific creators of packet tricks in the modern era. With just a handful of cards, he has over a thousand published effects to his name. This was one of his favorites. Discover how much magic you can create with a classic three-card trick.

Here’s what happens: The magician introduces the classic three-card monte trick and offers to give a friendly lesson on why you should never play this game. After showing three blank blue-backed cards, the spectator is free to choose a colored sticker to designate one of the cards as the winner. With the sticker on it, this card jumps from the bottom to the top and then to the center. Then, in a sudden twist, the blue-backed card with the sticker on it turns into a red-backed card! To conclude, magically printed words appear on the back that read: “CHOOSE THIS CARD!”
