“Jumping to Conclusions” is Harapan’s version of Max Maven’s classic “Drawing Conclusions” effect (released with his permission). Harapan’s adapted approach makes the concept fairer than ever. Your participant makes truly free choices, and the result is different every time.

A deck of abstract images is quickly shuffled. Your volunteer can even shuffle it as many times as they like before you turn your head away and begin dealing cards onto the table. Whenever they want, they tell you to stop. It’s a completely free choice, and they can even change their mind.

With your head still turned away, they look at their image and then shuffle it back in among the other cards (let’s say they chose “deur”). There seems to be no way you could possibly know which card they chose, or where it is in the deck. Despite these impossible odds, you start searching through the cards while trying to read their mind. Without them saying a word, you eliminate a few possibilities and line them up on the table. They still don’t say a word as you begin to eliminate some of these cards.

With only a few possibilities left, you finally ask if you’re on the right track. Amazingly, they say “nee” because you’ve already eliminated their image… or so they think.

Without any shuffling or suspicious movements, you prove that you knew which image they chose all along. You neatly rearrange the remaining abstract images to show that they aren’t as random as they seem. They actually spell out the word “deur” (or whatever image they chose).
