The word “Fatum” originates from Latin and means “lot” or “noodlot”. In Dutch, the word “fatum” is primarily used in a poetic or literary context to refer to an inescapable fate or an inevitable event that determines the course of things.

The Premium Magic Store is proud to present FATUM, a collaboration with the Italian magic shop La Servente. A mentalism effect that will predict the future of your participants, entirely in Dutch! Discover together with your audience that fate has already determined everything, and that the future is already written in the stars.

What is FATUM?

FĀTUM is a two-phase routine for two spectators.

Imagine showing a few Fortune Cards

that come from a fortune-telling machine. Each spectator tears off a label from the top or bottom of the strip (their choice) and reads the fate

written on the back.

Now it’s time to test their autosuggestion: will they be influenced by the fortune-teller’s words? To test this, you’ll use an antique deck of cards: it contains only Sun and Moon cards.

Cut the deck roughly in half and place one half face down and the other face up: each spectator will take 7 cards from the top, from the bottom, or from both. (free choice again)

Now they count the number of Sun and Moon cards they have collected, and they have both collected different numbers of Sun and Moon cards, but… the number of Sun and Moon cards they have taken will match the number of Sun and Moon cards depicted on the front of each card they chose at the beginning!

In the second part, all the cards are shuffled by the spectators and then returned to you. You fan out the cards face down and pull out a few cards, face down, and ask the spectators to guess whether it is a sun or moon card.

You place each card according to the spectator’s guess. After a few cards, you turn the cards over and show that… all the sun and moon cards were perfectly separated by the spectators’ instincts!
