A few cards are shuffled, divided into two face-down piles, and one pile is handed to a spectator. Both the magician and the spectator place their respective piles behind their backs, freely choose a card, and then exchange them. These cards are placed face down in the middle of the respective piles. When the two piles are fanned out, the selected cards turn out to be exactly the same! Just as the audience begins to believe that all the cards must be the same, the two piles are turned over, revealing that the cards are the same… but all different from the two selections!
