You show a box containing five strings of different bright colors. Both ends of each string hang from the outside of both sides of the box. A magic wand is placed inside the box, in front of the strings. The ends of the wand thus always protrude from the box. A lid is placed on the box to cover the strings and the wand. A member of the audience is invited to simply choose one of the colored strings of their choice. They can change their mind if they wish while the effect unfolds!

The remaining strings that were not chosen are removed one by one. The spectator can ALSO choose which colored strings they want to remove from the box—and in what order. It is important to emphasize the spectator’s control, both in choosing which colored string should remain in the box and in choosing which strings should be removed and in what order. When the lid is removed, it is revealed that the string chosen by the spectator is the ONLY string tied around the wand and has been attached to it from the very beginning!

At the end of the routine, you can let the audience examine everything if you wish.

The method is ingenious: there is no coercion. This is a very simple method where the focus is entirely on the presentation.
